Total CoViD19 Within The UN System as of FEB 3rd: 28124 Cases, 182 Deaths

- The United Nations on Thursday stated that the total number of coronavirus infection among its staff in the UN System as of today 03 February 2022 is: 28,124 and 182 deaths. The new numbers show an increase of 5644 new cases and 3 new fatalities from the previous count on 10 December 2021.
- Mr. Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General told the Jordan Report Media and Entertainment that among the total, there are 1075 cases in the UN Secretariat and non-Secretariat in New York with an increase of 472 cases from 10 December 2021.
- Both, the Departments of Peacekeeping and Political Offices have discrepancies in the infection's numbers. Currently and as per Farhan, the number of cases is: 7030 5388 including 39 deaths, with an increase of 1642 cases since 10 December 2021.
- However, numbers of changes should be addressed. For example, the number as of 01 November is 5214 cases, including 38 deaths. However, the number of cases as of September 2021 was 6757 cases, including 43 deaths and the number was 4748 cases including 33 deaths in July 2021. In October, we received lower number from the previous ones: 5147 cases including, 37 deaths. The DPKO office did not reply to our inquiries to address such discrepancy.
- " To date, we are not aware of any instances of workplace transmission." Mr. Haq said. However, the statement in the past was "to date, we have had no workplace transmission. This is consistent with the extensive risk management we have put in place". The change could be an indicator of workplace transmission.
- This month numbers shows that 5785 peacekeepers have recovered from the pandemic. That shows an increase of recoveries from 4726 in December and 4637 in November 2021.

- The United Nations on Tuesday stated that the total number of coronavirus infection among its staff in the UN System until 31 August 2021 is: 19901 cases and 171 deaths. The new numbers show an increase of 2233 new cases and new 14 fatalities from the previous count on 07 July 2021.
- Mr. Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General told the Jordan Report Media and Entertainment that among the total, there are 486 Cases in the UN Secretariat and non-Secretariat in New York with an increase of 59 cases from July.
- Both, the departments of Peacekeeping and political offices have to date 6757 cases, including 43 deaths. The number was 4748 cases including 33 deaths in July 2021.

A spokesperson from the Department of Peacekeeping said that "as of 3 February, there were 2309 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in both peacekeeping operations and special political missions, with 2040 recovered. The "number includes civilian, police and military personnel, in addition to consultants/contractors, UN Volunteers and dependents" as per another DPKO spokesperson.
Mr. Haq also stated that there are 786 cases among the staff of UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) including 4 deaths.
On the location of the cases among UN peacekeeping missions, DPKO spokespersons reported the following: MINUSCA (Central African Republic) has 556 cases and (4) death, MINUSMA (Mali) has 473 cases and (3) death, UNIFIL (Lebanon) has 409 cases and (0) death, MONUSCO (Congo) has 222 cases and (6) death, UNMISS (South Sudan) has 189 cases and (5) death, UNMIK (Kosovo) has 63 cases and (0) death, UNAMID (Darfur of Sudan) has 59 cases and (3) deaths, UNFICYP (Cyprus) has 51 cases and (0) death, UNISFA (Abyei) has 30 cases and (1) death, UNTSO (Jerusalem) has 9 cases and (0) death, UNMOGIP (India and Pakistan) has 7 cases and (0) death, UNDOF (Golan Heights) has 3 cases and (0) death, MINURSO (Western Sahara) has 1 case and (0) death. There are 273 cases among the special political missions.
However, the Jordan Report Media was told by some sources, that the number reported by the UN, is far less than the actual numbers. For example, the cases in MINURSO is over 30 people, as per one source, yet the UN stated it was only one case.

On 19 March 2019 - UNICEF spokesperson stated the following "UN Medical Services advised us yesterday evening that one of our UNICEF New York colleagues has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). Our colleague is in frequent contact with UN Medical Services and, thankfully, is recovering well.
On 13 March 2020 that UN "three people working in UNICEF House in midtown east, New York have developed flu-like symptoms. They have not been confirmed positive to COVID-19. "
On 5 March. the UN in Senegal announced that one staff is tested positive for CoVid19. She is 33 years from the UK.
